The second day of the NZCIS Wellington Cup Carnival has been run under clear blue skies, and the $30,000 Trainers Championship is hotting up with a week to go.

Each region has $10,000 up for grabs for the leading trainer, with a point per start and another 6, 4 and 2 points for the first three home in a race. Group and Listed races have further points allocated, with a maximum of 94 available next weekend.

Allan Sharrock has retained his lead in the Central region, with Lisa Latta making a good run to close within six points and Robbie Patterson back on 15 points.

The Northern region is extremely close, with Jamie Richards/Te Akau just two points clear of Team Rogerson and Tony Pike who are locked together on 16 points.

The South Island weren’t represented today, so Danny Frye’s 8 points from last weekend sees him retain his lead in the third battle for $10k in cash.

Who’ll take home the money next weekend? We’ll find out when the 2022 NZCIS Wellington Cup Carnival comes to its exciting conclusion.
