Dress Standards

Dress up. Show up. Enjoy the races.

What to Wear to the Races

A day at Trentham is a great excuse to dress up, get together and enjoy the occasion.

Racing and fashion have always gone hand in hand, particularly on our feature racedays, but what you wear will depend on where you're spending your day.

Here's what you need to know.

General Admission

There is no formal dress code in General Admission areas at Trentham.

We want you to feel comfortable and enjoy your day, whether that means dressing up for the occasion or keeping things more relaxed. We simply ask that clothing is tidy and presentable.

On our major racedays, particularly Wellington Cup Day, you'll find plenty of racegoers embracing the occasion with dresses, suits, shirts, jackets and headwear – so if you've been waiting for an excuse to dress up, this is it.

Members Stand

A smart casual dress code applies within the Members Stand.

Members and their guests are expected to dress appropriately for the occasion.

Smart jeans and dress shorts are welcome, along with collared shirts, polos, dresses, skirts, tailored pants and other smart casual attire.

We ask that you avoid overly casual clothing including singlets, sportswear, ripped or torn clothing and jandals.

Remember, Members are responsible for ensuring their guests are also dressed to the appropriate standard.

Committee Lounge

A smart dress standard applies within the Committee Lounge.

On our larger feature racedays, including Wellington Cup Day, a more formal dress code applies, with gentlemen required to wear a jacket and tie and ladies expected to dress to an equivalent raceday standard.

On other racedays, smart attire is expected, however a jacket and tie is not required.

If a specific dress code applies to your raceday, this will be included in your event or hospitality information.

Hospitality Areas

A smart standard of dress is encouraged in our hospitality areas.

Raceday attire is particularly encouraged on our feature days, when dressing up is all part of the Trentham experience.

Some hospitality areas or special events may have their own dress requirements. Where this applies, the dress code will be included in your ticket or event information.

Wellington Cup Day

Wellington Cup Day is one of the biggest days on the Trentham calendar – and the perfect opportunity to dress for the occasion.

While General Admission remains relaxed, many racegoers choose to embrace the tradition of raceday fashion with suits, dresses, statement pieces and headwear.

Whether you're going all out or keeping things simple, make it your own and enjoy the occasion.

Not Sure?

If you're unsure whether what you're planning to wear meets the dress requirements for your ticketed area, get in touch with the Wellington Racing Club team before raceday.

We'd much rather answer the question beforehand than have you arrive unsure on the day.
